Caring for Your Pet’s Dental Care

Gum disease has become a major health issue in pet’s, especially in dogs. More than 80% of dogs suffer from early stage of gum infection which increases the risk of chronic dental disease. Luckily there are a few methods and products to ensure your pet’s teeth stay nice and healthy.

We recognise that our busy schedules often make it difficult to prioritise the regular brushing of our pet’s teeth. However, we have excellent alternative solutions available to assist you in maintaining their dental health. Dental chews, toys and supplements are a great, enjoyable and easy way to ensure our pets teeth stay nice a shiny.

Elkwood DentaSponge Chew

Dental chews can help remove plaque and tartar buildup, which can contribute to fresher and healthier teeth. Chewing on these treats can also stimulate saliva production, which helps wash away bacteria and food particles. Additionally, dental chews can provide mental stimulation and help satisfy your dog’s natural chewing instincts. It’s a win-win for their dental health and overall well-being!

If you are looking for something more durable, we recommend Antlers as they are long lasting, keeping your dog entertained and engaged. They are also a good source of minerals like calcium and phosphorus.

PlaqueOff Powder for Dog’s and Cat’s

Another great alternative is the PlaqueOff powder as it is a natural supplement that can be beneficial for both dogs and cats. It helps promote good dental hygiene by reducing plaque and tartar buildup. The powder contains a special type of seaweed that, when ingested, can help soften and remove plaque from your pet’s teeth. It’s easy to use and can be sprinkled onto their food. Remember though, its always a good idea to consult with your vet before introducing a new supplement to your pet's diet.

For dog’s with a more extreme case of plaque and tartar buildup, there is an Ultrasonic teeth cleaning which helps get those yellow teeth back to pearly whites.

The ultrasound service is non-invasive and does not require your pet to be put under anaesthesia which is great for the more elderly pets. This service works by using high-frequency sound waves to remove plaque and tartar from their teeth as it creates microscopic bubbles in the cleaning solution. This is a gentle and effective method for keeping their teeth clean and healthy.

There can be 2 explanations to this. Firstly you could be putting too much pressure when brushing your pet’s teeth causing the bristles to scratch the gum line causing it to bleed. Bleeding gums can also be a an early sign of gingivitis as the gum can become inflamed causing them to be red, swollen and bleed easily. If this is the case we recommend going to your vet or nearest groomer for advice.
